Community Council Agenda

December 12, 2018

Lori Peterson welcomed us.  Mr. Willie read the meeting minutes from our last meeting.

Colette Erickson motioned to approve the minutes, Mr. Willie secon

One of the items we noticed at the school we need is grade level interventions.  These are kids who have below benchmark interventions.  We put the kids levels together and focus on their academic needs.  It’s an opportunity for the kids who are above benchmark to be challenged.

**watched ticking time bomb video**

Students who aren’t coming to school are more likely to drop of out school.  Kids who aren’t up to reading level by 3rd grade will struggle their entire educational career.

**watched Mike Mateos video** We don’t want most kids to success, but ALL kids to succeed.

We took 9 people to the solution tree (one teacher from each grade, Mr. Willie, and a SPED teacher).  We want teachers to know how to collaberate to help all the students.  They come back from the meeting motivated and ready to help their team.

Mrs. Chipp said she’s in her 9th year and felt like it lit a fire under her and helped her be so much more motivated.  Because her students can tell how much she loves what she does and it helps the student succeed too.

Aides/Para professionals that are 4 hours or more those aides are paid year round.  We only have one aide under 4 hours and paid hourly, the rest are salary.

We’ve spent a lot on our substitute budget.  This is because we have paid for subs while the teachers are at trainings like solution tree, reading horizons.  ($2,500 in October) It is high now because of the trainings, but we should be right on target for the rest of the year.

The district will be doing a survey with our staff because we have the behavior unit and a growing ELL community.  This survey is justice, equity, and inclusion. The survey is to help find new ways to have interventions to help the kids and to increase high school graduation rates.
